News:
We launch RePEc Author Service on new software
March 21, 2004
The name and the service
RePEc Author Service (RAS) replaces HoPEc, both as a project name and as a web service. Old HoPEc software was rewritten from scratch to make it more flexible, more general, easier to use.
What’s new?
Quite a lot, if we compare with HoPEc. Important differences:
- New service employs a common login/password approach to secure user accounts. No need to confirm your profile changes through email anymore.
- Users have full control of their profiles: now you can change your email address, your name and so on.
- Different approach is used to identify works of a person. Almost every personal name can be spelled in a number of different ways. We call these ways “name variations”. It is used to find works of a person in the bibliographic database.
Every personal profile registered in HoPEc will be imported into new service. Users will receive an email message from the system with login details and a password. We expect this process to take about a week.
Feedback
We greatly appreciate critical and constructive feedback from our users. Let us know if you have any difficulties while using the service.

The work on rewriting HoPEc software was funded by an Open Society Institute grant as ACIS project.
